Travel insurance when visiting Singapore

The tiny city-state of Singapore has been a significant trading hub for more than 700 years, and the cultural relics of the millions who’ve passed through it make it a fascinating place for foodies and history buffs. If you’re a traveller transiting through Singapore, it may be worth extending your visit to a few days or more to explore beyond the confines of its busy airport.

Perched at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, this small country is home to extraordinary modern architecture as well as well-preserved colonial landmarks, and awe-inspiring views of thousands of ships sailing through the Strait to the second busiest port in the world, Singapore Port.

Delayed luggage is reportedly one of the top issues for our travellers in Singapore, which may not be surprising given it hosts such busy air and sea ports. Lost and stolen luggage and medical emergencies are also among the unexpected events that our travelers report.

How can travel insurance help when visiting Singapore?

World Nomads travel insurance is designed to help with many of the unexpected events that can occur while traveling.

Overseas emergency medical assistance

One minute, you’re enjoying a cycling trip around the pristine island of Pulau Ubin, the next you’re in an ambulance wondering what happened. Accidents and illness can happen unexpectedly which is why our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team is always available to take your call. Our team members can:

  • Direct you to the closest medical facility.
  • Help navigate local customs and set up direct payments to the medical facility if needed.
  • Organise an ambulance if necessary.
  • Put you in touch with our in-house nurse who can help with medical queries.

Make sure you let us know how you’re doing and stay in touch with our EA team for the duration of your medical event. And don’t worry – if you’ve already left on your trip and wished you’d bought travel insurance, with World Nomads you can buy while you’re already overseas although waiting periods for cover may apply.

Repatriation or evacuation cover for when things go wrong

If you’re seriously injured or ill, our cover includes (if deemed medically necessary):

  • Evacuation to transport you to the nearest medical treatment facility.
  • Repatriation back to your Country of Residence for medical treatment.

This is particularly helpful when you’re injured and require special assistance or arrangements (such as lying flat) while flying, which can require the purchase of multiple seats, business class travel or an air ambulance.

And, if you’re traveling alone and are unable to navigate your repatriation by yourself, depending on your Country of Residence, we may also send one of our World Nomads team members to accompany you home. You can read how we helped one of our travelers in this scenario.

Coronavirus and traveling to Singapore

Depending on your Country of Residence, World Nomads travel insurance offers cover for some COVID-19-related events.

You should also do your research about the COVID-19-related travel restrictions and entry requirements – including PCR tests and proof of vaccination – for the countries you’re traveling to. Make sure you’ve done your homework and know what you will need to enter or transit through Singapore.

Travel Insurance Tip: it’s your responsibility to check visa and entry requirements, and make sure you comply with them, to any destination you’re travelling to. Travel insurance doesn’t offer cover for the costs associated with being denied entry to a country because you didn’t have the right visas or entry requirements.

When you arrive safely, but your bags don’t

If your bags don’t arrive with you in Singapore, then luggage travel insurance may be able to help while the airline tries to find it. If your bags are delayed 12 hours (or 24 hours on some policies) after the scheduled landing time, you may be covered for basic expenses you incur as a result. This may include a change of clothes, a toothbrush and other basic necessities.

What to do if your bag doesn’t turn up: if your airline carrier has lost your luggage, you must exhaust all avenues with them first to try and locate it. You’ll need to file a lost luggage report with your carrier or the local authorities, and keep copies of all paperwork, including all receipts of expenses, for when you submit your claim.

If you’re not sure what to do, contact our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team who can help.

World Nomads Footprints Program

World Nomads believes in giving back to the communities we visit as travellers. We began our Footprints charity program in the wake of the devastating Southeast Asian tsunami of 2004, to enable travellers to donate to community development projects across the world.
If you decide to purchase travel insurance with us, there is an option to add a donation at the time of purchase, and select the project you would like to send the donation to. One hundred percent of all donations go directly to the project.

All of the information we provide about travel insurance is a brief summary only. It does not include all terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions and termination provisions of the travel insurance plans described. Coverage may not be available for residents of all countries, states or provinces. Please carefully read your policy wording for a full description of coverage.
