Travel insurance for soon to be mums.

Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t still see the world! If you’ve already booked travel, or if you want to take a babymoon to enjoy a vacation before your bundle of joy comes along, our travel insurance policies can help look after you and your unborn child should something go wrong.
Being pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t get travel insurance. You can still be covered if you suffer an accident or unforeseen illness that’s not related to your pregnancy, if your valuables are stolen or you experience any of the other covered events on your policy. You may also be covered for the following as a result of complications of pregnancy:
If something does happen when you’re travelling, you can contact our 24-hour multi-lingual assistance teams who can refer you to the nearest hospital, set up direct payments to the medical facility and help you navigate local customs.
It’s important to be aware that any non-emergency expenses caused by or related to your pregnancy aren’t covered, such as routine prenatal care including ultrasounds and blood tests. Other pregnancy events that may not be covered include:
Our travel insurance policies don’t cover everything so make sure you read your Policy Document, including the exclusions and the definition of ‘complications of pregnancy’.
Many of our plans have a free look period (See state specific plan for details) so that you can examine your coverage to see if it's the right fit for you, your baby and your travel needs. If you cancel during the "free look" period, the premium is refundable as long as you haven't started your trip or otherwise used the plan.
If you’re unsure about anything or have questions about how pregnancy might affect your cover, you can contact us.
That’s up to you to discuss with your doctor but it may affect your travel insurance and if you’re covered. your airline might ask for a letter from your doctor confirming your expected due date and whether you’re at risk of any complications.
It is important to check your airline’s policy regarding pregnancy. If you get to the airport and your airline won’t let you fly, you may not be able to claim on your plan benefits as the airline denying your boarding due to a violation of their company policy is not an event covered under the plan.
As always, this information is a summary only and does not include all terms, conditions and exclusions. Be sure to read your plan document and if you’re not sure if something is covered or not, contact us.
It’s essential that you get in contact with our emergency assistance teams as soon as possible so that you can be supported from the time you fall sick or get injured until the time you get home.
So that our Emergency Assistance teams can assist you quickly, please be ready with the following:
I unexpectedly became pregnant towards the end of November. I was planning on still going on the trip until my doctor diagnosed me with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. They recommend not leaving the country due to these complications in the first trimester of pregnancy.
World Nomads plans build in benefits that support you should you unexpectedly get sick while traveling. Our medical coverage includes benefits for serious illnesses, such as COVID-19, or being placed under strict quarantine by a physician or government mandate, among other scenarios.
This benefit helps you recover non-refundable, pre-paid trip costs when you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason, including for an unexpected sickness that keeps you from traveling.
The only thing worse than catching COVID-19 is getting infected away from home. If you get sick with COVID-19 or another illness, you can get diagnostic tests to confirm your case and other emergency medical benefits.
If you're in an inadequate medical facility, our plans have benefits that can arrange a transfer to a hospital capable of treating your medical needs.
During your travels, you might have to return home early. With trip interruption, you could get reimbursed for a one-way, economy-class ticket home and any pre-paid, unused portions of your trip if you need to change your plans for a covered reason.
Even when there isn’t a pandemic, traveling can have its bumps and hiccups. If your travels are delayed at least six hours by a covered event, you could get reimbursed for meals, hotels and other basic expenses.
