Everything you need to know about travel insurance for kayaking and rafting

Exotic sunsets, the water lapping at your bow; experiences on the water are often the most unforgettable part of any holiday. From paddling with the family on Lake Superior, to sea kayaking the turquoise waters around Indonesia’s Raja Ampat archipelago, get your next holiday flowing on a kayaking or rafting adventure.
When you get a travel insurance quote for your kayaking or rafting trip, you need to specify the adventure activity in your policy. When you 'choose your options' and select your kayaking/rafting activity according to the following activity category:
Several activity options above mention international river grades which can be described as:
International River Grading
Traveler’s Tip: before you launch, remember to check the International River Grading of the river you’re on so you won’t invalidate your cover. The scale is used for various water sports and activities, such as black and white water rafting, river boarding, white-water canoeing, stand up paddle surfing, and whitewater kayaking. Read more about the International River Grading System from California White Water Rafting.
With regards to river/rafting insurance, you will note that an additional specified item is required if you are venturing more than 3 nautical miles from your kayaking/rafting point of departure, i.e. your travel insurance policy will require an additional premium.
So remember if you are kayaking/rafting more than 3 nautical miles and you haven't specified this on your World Nomads policy - you are not covered!
World Nomads won't insure you for kayaking/rafting down rivers of a Class 6 variety: 'Extreme and Exploratory rapids'. Sorry, we'd love to, hell, we'd love to film you and publish it on our site, but sadly, we can't insure you.
See the list of International River Grades above.
