Medical Emergencies

From Poutine-eating competitions to stunning road trips and adventure activities, there’s so much to see and do in Canada that the last thing you want is to get sick or injured and then worry about how you’re going to pay the medical bill. Overseas medical insurance offers cover for emergency medical treatment in Canada for events such as:

  • Hospitalization
  • Day surgery and out-patient treatment
  • Visits to registered medical practitioners
  • Prescribed medicines
  • Ambulances
  • Extra expenses to get you home, if medically necessary
Travel tip: know your own medical history and needs. For example, if you have anexisting medical condition(s) that may invalidate your cover. In some cases, you may need to have a doctor sign off that you’re fit to travel. If you’re not sure whether you’re covered or not, call us and we can help.

24/7 Emergency Assistance Team

Our multi-lingual team is here to take the stress out of already stressful situations. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and can offer assistance such as arranging medical transport, setting up direct payments to medical facilities and giving support to you and your family.

Coverage for Coronavirus

Depending on your Country of Residence and the travel insurance plan you choose, you may have access to Coronavirus (COVID-19) coverage for certain events.

To find out what cover applies to you, select your Country of Residence and read our What’s Covered for Coronavirus article which has all of the details. If you’re not sure if something is covered or how to claim, contact us and we’ll let you know.

Travel tip: many countries now require proof of COVID vaccination and pre-entry testing before you can enter, and some countries have introduced visas and travel insurance minimum requirements. Do your research before you go as travel insurance does not cover expenses you incur because you don’t have the correct visas to enter your intended destination(s).

Cancellation

With all of the uncertainty when it comes to travel over the past few years, the last thing you want is to be out of pocket if you have to cancel your travel plans unexpectedly.

Depending on your Country of Residence, our travel insurance policies can offer coverage for some non-refundable, pre-paid transport and accommodation expenses, so you've got one less thing to worry about.

All of our policies can offer coverage for you if you can’t travel because:

  • A doctor certifies that you’re medically unfit to travel,
  • You, your travelling companion or a close relative is hospitalized or dies.

Travel Insurance Cover for Adventure Activities

If you’re into the outdoors, Canada is the place to be. There’s a mountain, canyon, trail, and river for every adventurer.

Our travel insurance policies offer cover for a range of activities from cross-country and alpine skiing to hiking and mountain biking. We can also cover some water-based activities, including kayaking and white-water rafting. Some of these activities may require you to use specific safety gear or to be accompanied by a licensed guide, and other terms and conditions may apply – these will be outlined in your policy.

Depending on your Country of Residence, you may need to add the activity you want to do while on your trip, such as skiing or scuba diving, for it to be included in your cover. You’ll also want to read the exclusions section of your policy closely because some activities such as Mountaineering or professional sports are not covered. You can find out more about our travel insurance coverage for Adventure sports.

Remember, if you’re not sure if something you’re planning on doing while on holiday is covered, please contact us before you organize your policy.

Travel tip: the weather in Canada can change rapidly so make sure you’re prepared on your outdoor adventures by taking gloves, a warm jacket and a waterproof jacket – even in summer. You don’t want to get caught out!
