How is the Russian invasion of Ukraine affecting Poland?
March 2022: The Russian invasion of Ukraine is ongoing. You should not attempt to cross into Ukraine from Poland. According to gov.uk, from 2 March 2022, Poland has extended a law limiting access until 30 June 2022 to areas within 3km of the Belarusian border in parts of Podlaskie and Lubelskie Voivodeships.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions in Poland – updated 16 April 2021
Poland has restricted entry to all foreigners at all external borders (land, air, and sea), including for transit purposes. Only foreigners in the following categories will be allowed to enter: citizens or legal residents of European Union countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Georgia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, South Korea, Tunisia, and Australia, and their spouses and children
All travelers who are permitted to enter Poland must undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine at their place of stay in Poland, except for people who qualify for one of the following exemptions:
- For arrivals from the Schengen Area: travelers who have a negative COVID test result from a test performed in a Schengen Area country within 48 hours prior to arrival
- For arrivals from outside the Schengen Area: travelers who are able to obtain a negative COVID test result within 48 hours after arrival to Poland. (Results of tests taken in countries outside the Schengen Area do not qualify for exemption from quarantine.)
- Travelers who are completely vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine that is approved for use in the European Union
From 27 March to at least 25 April, there are tighter restrictions in place nationwide. Face masks are compulsory in open public spaces and in all enclosed spaces and on public transport. Public gatherings are restricted to five people. Cultural institutions and non-essential shops are closed, and restaurants and pubs can only provide takeaway/delivery service.
Travel restrictions due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) – March 2020
Prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki has announced new measures, banning gatherings of more than two people from March 25. To ensure distancing, other measures included limit the number of passengers on public transport to 50% of the seat capacity.
From March 15, all foreign nationals will be barred from entering Poland to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). All Polish citizens and residents will be allowed to return to the country but will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine.
